What matters to you when considering a new opportunity? Is it money? Mission? Title?

We're all receiving recruiter requests and we're all asking ourselves if this is the opportunity for us. So how do we decide?

I have 3 simple rules to decide on a new opportunity. (Lane checks these boxes, and we're hiring!)

So what are they?

  1. A Positive-Impact Product - I want to work on a product that has a clear mission with a positive impact on the world.
  2. Transparency & Trust - Leaders exist to enable others to make the right decision. How? By providing context, guidance and trusting people closest to the decision.
  3. The Team - I want a team that is ego-free. A team focused on making the right decision not a selfish decision.

1) A Positive-Impact Product

I'm a product guy. I like to solve problems, create a vision, and build a roadmap to get there. To me, the product is key factor!

I want to work on a product that has a clear mission with a positive impact on the world. I don't have clear rules on this, I aim for a product that resonates with me.

2) Transparency & Trust

I want to work at a company that values transparency and trust. This is how I lead/manage and how I want to be led/managed.

Leaders/Managers are there to enable others to make the right decision. How? By providing context, guidance, and insight.

We, as leaders, are not there to make decisions. We are here to help others make decisions.

3) The Team

I care about the people I work with. Not only my team, but my peers and leadership. I want to work with people that challenge me and I feel comfortable challenging.

I want a team that is ego-free. A team focused on making the right decision not a selfish decision.

Constructive tension and disagreement is necessary for a successful business.
